Gender Pay Gap Statement

The UK's gender pay gap widened to 35% in March 2024, hitting a two-year peak, Adzuna's research suggests. A Bicycle Association study on diversity in cycling shows that women only make up 8% of the cycling industry’s workshop-based roles, 40% of administrative jobs and 19% of customer-facing roles. The Rider Firm recognises that we need to do more to address the pay gap and create a welcoming workplace that provides equal opportunities for all.

As a company with under 250 UK employees, The Rider Firm are not required to report on the gender pay gap, but we have chosen to do this as part of our commitment to transparency and to help us achieve equality in our business. The Rider Firm believes in creating a diverse and gender balanced workforce, with job opportunities for everyone regardless of gender, background, race, and ethnicity. We are striving to create a truly inclusive culture for our employees and riders.

In April 2024 our overall mean gender pay gap is 19.96%, reflecting that we currently have more men in promoted (or senior) positions in the company. Our median gender pay gap is 0.06%, meaning that in a typical role in our company a woman is paid 0.06% less than a man.

We are committed to ensuring that there is no difference in pay rates for those who are carrying out the same function. Additionally we are committed to understanding what is driving our pay gap and working to improve it. The primary impacts on our pay gap figures are a low percentage of female employees and a lack of female representation in certain roles: with more men than women in senior roles. We will improve this through our employee development and recruitment strategies. We have implemented a new recruitment process with the following improvements:

  • where Job descriptions & adverts are assessed to ensure they are gender neutral in both explicit and implicit language.
  • All vacant positions are evaluated and externally advertised except where internal knowledge is essential for the role.
  • All external roles advertised on Grow Cycling – an initiative to support more diverse recruitment into the cycling industry
  • Working to ensure candidate shortlists and interview panels are more representative

Internally we continue to develop and adopt best practice to ensure development opportunities & support are open for all staff regardless of background.
